Alicante and Andalucía celebrate European Mobility Week with fresh initiatives
Celebrating Mobility Week with city-wide activities and transport deals

In Benidorm, the local council has rolled out a packed programme including educational activities for children such as teaching traffic signs and providing hands-on experience at a children’s traffic park. Notably, public transport users will benefit from free travel for one day on the urban bus network, easing access and promoting alternatives to private vehicles.
A standout feature of the week is the “Walk for your city” challenge, a digital initiative using the Walk15 app to count residents’ steps as they stroll around the city. This friendly competition aims to foster healthier lifestyle habits along with sustainable urban mobility. At the end of the week, prizes will be awarded to cities recording the most steps taken, encouraging as many locals as possible to get involved.
Meanwhile, the Andalusian Regional Government together with the Málaga Metropolitan Transport Consortium (CTMAM) is offering an eye-catching promotion linked to its new M-165 express bus line connecting Rincón de la Victoria with Málaga’s El Palo neighbourhood. Throughout the Mobility Week, ticket prices for smartphone users paying via the consortium’s app will plummet to a symbolic one cent per trip, exclusively for Android users.
This initiative seeks not only to encourage the use of this quick and eco-friendly route, but also to further digitalise public transport services and reduce congestion along this busy corridor. The campaign removes financial barriers and invites citizens from both municipalities to experience sustainable, efficient travel as an alternative to private cars.
Together, these measures underline the growing commitment in Spain to sustainable, accessible, and healthier urban transport solutions. With activities focused on education, healthy living, and removing obstacles to public transport use, both Benidorm and Andalucía are setting an example in promoting mobility for all.
Whether it’s stepping up for the city stroll challenge or hopping on a bus for a centimo, this week highlights how simple actions can make a positive difference for cities and their residents alike.
