Alicante flight from Glasgow forced into emergency landing

The pilot of an easyJet flight bound for Alicante had to request an emergency landing at Birmingham Airport on Tuesday October 3 when a passenger on board became seriously ill. The EZY3107 flight departed from Glasgow at 9.36am and was forced to turn around over Wales before touching down in the UK.

After less than an hour in the air, the plane landed in Birmingham where it was met by paramedics, who whisked the poorly passenger, who is understood to have needed "urgent medical assistance," to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for easyJet said: "We can confirm that flight EZY3107 from Glasgow to Alicante diverted to Birmingham this morning due to a passenger onboard requiring urgent medical assistance.

"Paramedics met the aircraft on arrival where the passenger was transferred to hospital and the flight continued to Alicante. The safety and well-being of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority."

On September 29, another flight from the UK to Tenerife was forced to request an emergency landing in Lanzarote when eight drunk passengers became violent. The pilot of the aircraft felt he had no option but to detour and call for police back-up due to the "possibility of attacks".

However, the unruly passengers didn't resist arrest when police met them on the tarmac and each of the tourists could now face fines of up to 46,000 euros.
