Andalucía weekly weather forecast September 28-October 1: Rain and cooler air signal the real end of summer

A wet and unsettled start to the week gives way to cloudier, milder conditions as October arrives and temperatures finally ease back

After last week's heat warnings and temperatures pushing close to 40°C inland, Andalucía gets a very different kind of week. Monday brings rain and a noticeable drop in maximums, and while it doesn't stay consistently wet, the heat that characterised so much of September is firmly on the retreat.

The change arrives with little ceremony. Cloudy skies and light to moderate rain spread across the region, heavier at times along the Mediterranean coast during the morning and in the western interior during the afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible, and weather warnings are in place for rainfall in Málaga and Huelva, with Huelva also carrying a storm warning. Temperatures fall across the board, with the sharpest drops in maximum temperatures coming inland. Skies clear from west to east through the afternoon. Winds are light and variable throughout.

Tuesday September 29

A much calmer day follows. Partly cloudy skies with mid and high cloud, and just a slight chance of light rain in the eastern half of the region. Temperatures begin to recover, with maximums rising inland, some locally quite significantly. Córdoba and Seville are the warmest spots at around 32°C, while the rest of the region sits in a comfortable high twenties. Jaén falls somewhere in between. Winds are light and variable, turning southerly during the afternoon.

Wednesday September 30

Cloud returns, with mid and high level cloud bringing the chance of scattered light rain, most likely in the eastern mountains where a thunderstorm or two can't be ruled out. Temperatures edge up slightly on the Mediterranean coast while holding broadly steady elsewhere, with minimums rising across the region. Almería and the eastern coast stay on the warmer side of things. Winds remain light and variable.

Thursday October 1

October opens on a cloudy note, with mid and high cloud covering much of the region and showers possible in the eastern mountains during the afternoon, again with a small chance of thunderstorms. Temperatures change little, with the coast sitting comfortably in the high twenties and the interior in the low thirties. Granada stays overcast but mild, while Tarifa gets the usual light winds along the Strait. A grey but largely dry day for most.

It's a week that finally feels like the season has turned. The heat warnings of last weekend feel a long way off, and with October now here, that's probably how it should be.
