British fugitive wanted for sexual assault arrested in Benidorm

44-year-old man caught in hotel after fleeing UK while out on bail for serious offences

A routine security patrol in Benidorm took an unexpected turn when officers from the Policía Nacional spotted a man acting suspiciously. The 44-year-old British man was quickly identified as a fugitive wanted by UK authorities for two counts of sexual assault and a 10-year prison sentence.

The suspect, who had been released on bail in 2020, fled the UK before a scheduled court hearing, breaking his bail conditions.

Policía Nacional officers noticed the suspect acting nervously in a hotel complex, raising suspicion. Since he carried no identification, they accompanied him to his room and quickly discovered he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued on November 12 for sexual assault charges stemming from incidents in London in 2020 and shortly after.

“The man’s evasive behaviour immediately raised our suspicions,” an officer said. After confirming his identity, he was placed under custody and handed over to the Central Court of Instruction Number 3 of the National Court, which is responsible for processing his extradition to the UK.
