Calum Best stands trial in Spain for sexual assault

Reality TV heartthrob and only son of George Best, Calum Best, has appeared before the courts in Spain on Tuesday January 9 accused of sexual assault. If convicted, the Love Island star faces three years behind bars.

Best was arrested on April 22 last year at the famous O Beach Club in Ibiza, which is owned by his friend Wayne Lineker, brother of Match of the Day host Gary. The incident was kept quiet at the time and has only been made public since the trial began.

The court has heard that the two-time Celebrity Big Brother contestant argued with a female tourist in the nightclub before “grabbing her hand and putting it on his privates, under his trousers, while he told her ‘Feel This.’”

Prosecutors say both actions were motivated by his aim of “satisfying his sexual desire.”

His alleged British victim, who has been called to give evidence against him, reportedly left the beach club immediately in “shock and confusion”.

Best has been charged with sexual assault which is punishable by between one and three years in prison under Spanish law, but prosecutors have also asked the judge to grant a restraining order preventing him from going within 100 metres of the targeted woman and contacting her for five years.

If convicted, he could also be banned from working with children for eight years.

The 42-year-old currently works as chairman of Dorking Wanderers FC’s women’s team and has been actively involved in the ‘Her Game Two’ campaign, which fights against sexism in women’s football, for a number of years.

Best’s dad George passed away in 2005 at the age of 59 after scoring 181 goals in 474 appearances for Manchester United.
