Corvera Airport passenger numbers rebound slightly with help from foreign visitors
The Region of Murcia International Airport has made a modest recovery following an underwhelming 2024

The Region of Murcia International Airport, commonly known as Corvera Airport, has seen a slight uptick in passenger numbers during the first four months of 2025. Between January and April, the airport handled 189,972 travellers, which is a modest 3.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
Most of the airport’s passengers travelled on international routes. A total of 165,198 international passengers passed through the terminal during the first four months of the year, reflecting a 4.9% increase.
In contrast, domestic travel has continued to decline following an equally underwhelming 2024, with just 24,195 passengers recorded, representing a drop of 3.2%. All figures refer to commercial flights, according to airport operator Aena.
However, Corvera is not alone in facing challenges within the domestic market. Other major airports in southern Spain, including Málaga and Alicante, also reported weaker demand on national routes during the same period.
In terms of flight activity, the airport operated 1,756 aircraft movements between January and April, a 12.9% increase compared to last year. During April alone, Corvera handled 92,004 passengers, a slight rise of 0.2%.
A total of 700 flights were operated that month, up 2.2%, signalling a small rebound after March’s downturn.
Despite these rather lukewarm improvements, Aena has significantly revised its long-term forecast for Corvera Airport. The latest projection estimates the airport will handle 39.9 million passengers over the course of its concession period, which runs until 2043. This figure represents a 35% cut from the original forecast of 61.4 million passengers, which was set when the concession was first approved.
Meanwhile, the broader Aena network, which includes 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, as well as London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil, closed April with a total of 32.3 million passengers.
This was a 6.2% increase compared to April 2024.
