Costa Blanca promoted as one of Spain’s top destinations for learning Spanish
Alicante officials say the province is attracting more international students thanks to its mix of education, climate and lifestyle

The Costa Blanca is stepping up efforts to attract international students by promoting the coast as one of Spain’s leading destinations for learning Spanish.
The Alicante Tourism Board is currently taking part in the ICEF Spanish Education fair in Madrid, one of the biggest international events focused on language tourism and study abroad programmes.
Tourism officials are using the event to showcase the province’s growing reputation for Spanish language education alongside its beaches, climate, culture and lifestyle.
According to Alicante Provincial Council, representatives are holding meetings with international agencies, tour operators and educational organisations that specialise in language travel programmes, with the aim of encouraging more students to choose the Costa Blanca.
The fair brings together universities, language schools, educational centres and tourism destinations from across the Spanish-speaking world, creating opportunities for new partnerships and business agreements.
José Mancebo, director of the Alicante Provincial Council’s tourism body, explained that the event offers valuable opportunities for direct meetings with international education professionals.
He said the fair also provides a chance to discuss major trends affecting the sector, including changing student profiles, growing international demand and the increasing use of digital tools to promote educational travel.
According to the council, the Costa Blanca’s presence at the event is part of a wider strategy to position the province as a competitive destination for language tourism.
Officials believe this type of visitor can bring important benefits to the local economy because students often stay for longer periods and travel outside the peak holiday season.
The council also pointed out that many students develop long-term connections with the area and later recommend the Costa Blanca to friends and family in their home countries.
During the fair, the Costa Blanca Tourist Board is also operating an information stand where visitors can learn more about the province’s educational options and tourism attractions.
The push comes as interest in learning Spanish continues to grow worldwide. According to the latest “Spanish: A Language for the World” report from the Cervantes Institute, around 24.6 million people studied Spanish as a foreign language in 2025, representing a 1.5% increase compared with the previous year.
