German teenager strangled, beaten and robbed after leaving Cabo Roig Strip
The 16-year-old says he was grabbed from behind and strangled before losing consciousness in the Campoamor area

A 16-year-old German tourist has reported being attacked and robbed after leaving the Cabo Roig Strip in the early hours of Saturday morning, August 15.
The teenager says he left the popular nightlife area at around 1am and began walking home along Calle Ana María Matute. The road is in Campoamor and runs towards the coast and Playa de la Glea area.
According to his account, he had reached the area around an old stone bridge when he was suddenly grabbed from behind. He says several people were involved and that he was put in a chokehold before being beaten and losing consciousness.
He was unable to give police a detailed description of those responsible. He remembers seeing several people with dark hair and believes they may have been Spanish, although he stressed that he couldn’t be certain.
The next thing he remembers is waking up at around 3am, roughly two hours after leaving the Cabo Roig Strip.
The teenager was disorientated and injured and began calling for help. Passers-by eventually found him and came to his assistance.
It was then that he realised several of his belongings were missing, including his wallet, keys and iPhone.
There was also an unusual discovery. When he checked his clothes, he found a mobile phone in his trouser pocket that he says didn’t belong to him and hadn’t been there before the attack.
The teenager handed the phone to police when they arrived. He later made an official complaint to the Guardia Civil about the alleged assault and robbery.
The mystery phone could potentially provide investigators with another line of enquiry, although it isn’t currently clear who it belonged to or how it ended up in the teenager’s pocket.
There was a further development the following day when the teenager used his iPad to track his missing iPhone. The location appeared to lead back to an area close to where the alleged attack had taken place. The phone was eventually found discarded in a green area. It had apparently been badly damaged, with the front and back smashed. The damage appears to have been caused by a stone or another hard object.
Anyone who was in the Calle Ana María Matute, Campoamor area, around the old stone bridge or nearby roads between approximately 1am and 3am on Saturday morning and saw anything unusual is being asked to come forward.
Residents or businesses with CCTV covering the area may also have footage that could help establish what happened or identify people who were in the area at the time.
