Man dies after being hit by train in Torre Pacheco

The incident disrupted rail services between Murcia and Cartagena this Sunday

A man tragically lost his life last Sunday afternoon, January 5, in Torre Pacheco after being struck by a train on the Murcia-Cartagena route. The incident caused significant disruption to rail services, with passengers being transferred by bus as emergency teams responded to the scene.

The ADIF (Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias) Protection Centre reported the accident to the Emergency Coordination Centre at 7.01pm, noting that it occurred approximately two kilometres from Torre Pacheco station, heading towards Balsicas.

Local Police, Civil Protection personnel with a Basic Life Support ambulance, and a Mobile Emergency Unit of 061 were dispatched. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the man, whose identity and age have not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene.

As a result, rail traffic was immediately suspended, and arrangements were made to transport affected passengers by bus to their destinations. Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the circumstances of the accident, but an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
