It looks like English-language stand-up comedy may be starting, against the odds, to build momentum in Murcia, as two established international performers are set to take the stage on Saturday May 9 at La Puerta Falsa, a comedy venue located in the centre of Murcia capital city, close to the Plaza Circular.

The show will feature Maria Shehata and Lisa Curry, both of whom have built strong reputations on the international comedy circuit.

Shehata has appeared on Live at the Apollo and Comedy Central Live, while her latest stand-up special has just been released on BBC Radio 4 this Wednesday, April 15.

Curry, who is based in Los Angeles and has credits like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Jim Jefferies Show under her belt, released her debut special, Emotionally Edging, last year to critical acclaim.

The event reflects a growing appetite for English-language comedy in Murcia. La Puerta Falsa, widely regarded as one of the city’s leading comedy venues, only began hosting shows in English this year.

The shift followed performances by Sergi Polo, a London-based comedian from Barcelona, who sold out multiple venues across Spain during his recent tour, including two dates in Murcia, while performing exclusively in English.

The upcoming show is being organised by Andrew Pollen, an Alicante-based comedian and promoter.

Tickets are available to purchase in advance online through the El Taquillero website, and cost €15 per person.
