Mazarrón Council secures emergency aid to repair collapsing road in Camposol urbanisation
Emergency flood response funds from the national government will be used to repair the vital Camposol road after the damage caused by Storm Emilia

In the days immediately after Storm Emilia battered Murcia, Mazarrón Council’s structural technicians, Protección Civil and Police visited the Camposol urbanisation to report on damage caused to the western approach road to the bridge connecting Sectors C and D, which comprise of some 2,882 residential properties, a golf course and popular club house to the rest of the urbanisation and the wider world.
At a recent meeting between the Camposol Business Association and Carmen Navarro, the Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol, the association took the opportunity to raise the issue of the collapsing road and the Councillor explained that measures were already in hand through the Ministry for Ecological Transition’s emergency flood damage procedure. The Councillor also showed the association representatives some correspondence between the Mazarrón Mayor and Francisco Lucas Ayala, the central government delegate for Murcia.
The road in question is vital for vehicles as it is the only passable route for a large number of properties to access the only connecting bridge. Many long term homeowners on Camposol will remember the flood of 2012 when the bridge was put out of commission by a storm and the residents of sectors C and D spent many weeks having to traverse farm tracks to enter and exit the two sectors.
It is expected that the funds will be available in approximately 30 to 40 days, after which contractors will be appointed. In this case, because the funds are being supplied through the emergency flood procedure it will not be necessary to go through the tendering process, which could have added 3 to 6 months to the commencement of the required work.
