Met Office predicts plummeting temperatures for Murcia
A rainstorm sweeping down from the north will bring cooler days to Murcia this weekend
The official start of autumn is fast approaching, beginning on September 22, and while it’s still nice and warm in the Region of Murcia we will start to get a feel of the shift towards the colder weather as soon as the end of this week, according to forecasts by the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
The weather forecasters are warnings that maximum temperatures will fall by up to eight degrees in some areas, mainly due to the arrival of a storm that is crossing down from the north of the country.
As such, by Friday September 13 the storm will bring rain to Murcia and we can expect to see daytime temps fall by 4-5 degrees across the Region. In some inland areas the fall will be even more pronounced and will drop by 8ºC.
In Murcia capital city, for example, thermometers are expected to mark 35ºC on Thursday September 12 but then go down to 27ºC in the space of just 24 hours.
In Lorca and Cartagena, on Friday the maximum temperatures will also fall down to 27ºC, while in Caravaca de la Cruz and Yecla maximum temperatures of 25ºC are expected.
This will be repeated on Saturday 14, when the rain continues and thermometers will not exceed 25-26ºC degrees in the whole Region. It’s worth noting that this change will not necessarily be so noticeable in the minimum temperatures, which will remain unchanged at around 20ºC, but it won’t be much longer before the nights start getting cold again and we have to get the quilts and blankets back out.
From Saturday onwards, we get a bit of a respite as the storm moves away – on Sunday 15, the skies will clear and temperatures will rise again a little bit, slightly above 30ºC, but this is the first taster of the start of the cooldown in temperatures as we wave goodbye to summer.
