More than 300,000 journeys expected on Murcia roads this long weekend
The DGT expects the busiest periods on Friday and Monday, with extra traffic patrols planned across the region's main roads

More than 300,000 vehicle journeys are expected across the Region of Murcia over the October 12 long weekend, with drivers being advised to plan ahead and avoid the busiest times where possible.
Spain's traffic authority, the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT), forecasts 304,128 journeys between Friday, October 9 and Monday October 12, when the national holiday gives many people an extra day off.
Traffic is expected to be heaviest between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm and again from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, particularly on Friday and Monday. Drivers setting off for a few days away, visiting family or travelling elsewhere in the region should allow extra time for their journeys.
Extra traffic patrols on Murcia's roads
The DGT is putting extra measures in place to manage the increase in traffic over the four days.
A total of 237 traffic officers will be on duty across the Region, supported by the Levante Traffic Management Centre and electronic message boards providing information to drivers.
Speed checks will also be carried out using fixed and average-speed cameras, as well as six mobile radar units. Aerial surveillance may be used when needed. The measures will remain in place on the region's main roads throughout the long weekend, with officers monitoring traffic and helping to manage congestion.
When should you travel?
If you're planning to drive anywhere over the long weekend, it's worth checking your route before leaving and allowing extra time, particularly if you need to travel during the busiest hours.
The DGT recommends avoiding peak traffic periods where possible. Setting off outside these times may help you avoid some of the congestion, although traffic conditions will vary depending on your route.
With the national holiday falling on Monday October 12, drivers should also bear in mind that traffic is expected to increase again as people return home at the end of the long weekend.
