Mud rain and calima set to hit Andalucía until Sunday
Dust from North Africa will bring muddy showers to much of the region, with the east worst affected at the weekend
Mud rain is already falling in western Andalucía and will intensify on Wednesday, when the central provinces are expected to be hit hardest by calima and muddy showers. The latest forecast says the phenomenon will linger through the rest of the week and into the weekend, after a dry Easter period ended with the arrival of rain and dust from North Africa.According to Juan de Dios del Pino, the regional delegate of Aemet in Andalucía, the rainy spell is being driven by a storm system moving in from north of Lisbon, together with suspended dust from North Africa. He said the effect will depend on “the concentration of suspended dust and the total amount of precipitation in each area”, which means some provinces will be much more affected than others.
The first signs were already visible on Tuesday, when mud rain reached the west of the region. By Wednesday, the most noticeable impact is expected in the central provinces, with temperatures also taking a hit. Del Pino said maximum temperatures could fall by up to ten degrees in some places, with around 20 degrees forecast in parts of western Andalucía, including Seville, Cádiz, Córdoba and Huelva.
For Thursday April 9, Aemet expects rainfall to ease across the province, although showers will not disappear completely. On Friday April 10, muddy rain is expected to continue, but with less intensity than in the previous days.
The weekend picture remains damp in the east. The Aemet delegate says muddy rain will continue throughout both Saturday and Sunday, but will be concentrated mainly in Granada and Almería. Saturday looks set to be limited to the far east, while Sunday should bring a gradual easing of the rain.
