New figures reveal the salary needed to buy a home across the Costa Blanca
Benidorm is one of Spain's most expensive property markets, while Alicante city and Elche remain considerably more affordable
Thinking of taking the plunge and buying a home in Alicante province? The amount you'll need to earn each month depends very much on where you want to live.
According to a new study, a household buying a typical 100m² property with a mortgage would need a net monthly income of almost €2,800 in Benidorm, making it one of Spain's least affordable cities for homebuyers.
The report estimates that buyers in Benidorm need to earn €2,813 per month after tax if they want to keep their mortgage repayments below 35% of their household income.
In comparison, the required income is significantly lower in other major towns across the province. A household buying in Alicante city would need a net monthly income of €1,991, while in Elche the figure drops to €1,531.
The calculations are based on purchasing a 100m² home with an 80% mortgage, although they don't include the upfront deposit, taxes or other buying costs.
Benidorm's high ranking reflects the continued demand for homes in one of Spain's best-known coastal destinations. The report places it alongside popular markets such as Marbella and Palma de Mallorca, where strong demand continues to push property prices higher.
Across Spain, San Sebastián tops the list as the country's least affordable city for buyers, with households needing a net monthly income of €5,074 to purchase a typical property. Madrid (€4,574) and Barcelona (€4,485) complete the top three.
At the other end of the scale, Zamora remains one of Spain's most affordable places to buy, where a household would need a monthly income of €1,279.
