Enjoy coastal and inland caravanning holidays all year round in the Costa Cálida
A large number of people visiting the Costa Cálida in motor homes choose to do so without booking into an official site with facilities, but the majority still prefer to relax in a designated campsite fully equipped to make their stay in the Region of Murcia as stress-free and pleasurable as possible.
Hand in hand with motorhome tourism, of course, goes the traditional camping under canvas, and many campsites also offer a range of prefab homes on site to make your stay as comfortable as possible!
Whether your plan is to spend the nights in a tent or in a motor caravan, the range of sites available in Murcia is easily wide enough to enjoy a varied trip to more than one destination, taking in mountain scenery and cultural tourism as well as the coast!
The following is a brief list of those sites which welcome motor homes and caravans, although there are various others where tents can be pitched and homes rented.
Coastal campsites
Starting in the south-west of Murcia, in the municipality of Águilas there are two campsites which welcome motorhomes: Camping Águilas, which is especially highly recommended for those visiting with children, and Camping Bellavista, located just 300 metres from the beach of Matalentisco.
Further up the coast in Mazarrón three more sites can be found: Camping Playa de Mazarrón, in the village of Bolnuevo, Camping Las Torres close to the beach of El Alamillo and Camping Los Delfines just outside Isla Plana.
Moving further east, two more sites can be found in the west of the municipality of Cartagena, one between the villages of Isla Plana and La Azohía (Camping Los Madriles, perfect for outdoor and sporting activities) and another in El Portús. This latter is the Camping Naturista el Portús, and those staying here have access to the nudist beach.
On the other side of Cartagena, at the southern end of the Mar Menor and next door to the Regional Park of Calblanque, is Camping Caravaning La Manga, where the calm water of the inland lagoon makes for a perfect beach holiday including young children.
Two more locations are available close to San Javier. One is the Camping Pueblo de San Javier, an ideal spot from which to enjoy walking tours, while the other is the Camping Mar Menor, right next to the beach and alongside the old Murcia-San Javier airport.
Inland campsites
But of course, the Region of Murcia is far more than just a coastline, and rural inland locations provide a variety of spectacular settings to park the motorhome and explore the area.
One of the most popular is the Camping Sierra Espuña in the foothills of the mountain range of the same name, located in the village of El Berro within the municipality of Alhama de Murcia.
Another location surrounded by opportunities to explore nature is the 50,000-square-metre Camping La Rafa in the outskirts of Bullas, while there are no fewer than three sites in and around the spa resort of Los Baños de Fortuna: Camping Castillejo, Camping Fuente and Camping Las Palmeras.
A great option for a family destination is Camping La Puerta de Moratalla in the far north-west of the Region of Murcia, while closer to the regional capital are other sites in Sangonera la Seca (camping La Paz) and Totana (Camping Totana).
All in all, something for all tastes and all times of year for those exploring the Region of Murcia in a caravan or motorhome – try various locations and you will be both surprised by the range of choice and tempted to explore further the next time you visit!
