Playa del Acequión, Torrevieja
Acequión beach, Torrevieja
The Playa del Acequión is the name given to the continuation of the Playa de los Náufragos on the north-eastern side of the salt quay, inside the port area. Of all Torrevieja’s urban beaches this fairly small one is probably the closest in appearance to the typical package holiday image of the Costa Blanca: high rise apartment buildings stand right next to the sand, and bar and restaurant terraces make beach dining an attractive possibility.
Parking for those wishing to enjoy the hustle and bustle of this beach is not easy in the immediate vicinity, and bus and bike are probably the best options to get here for those for whom it’s too far to walk. There are few special facilities on this stretch of sand apart from ice-cream kiosks, bins and wooden walkways, and unfortunately these walkways are of little use to those in wheelchairs as they are accessed by steps.
There is no promenade: those who fancy taking a stroll along the front do so on the sand!
Despite the lack of Blue Flag or Q for Quality status this is a very popular area all year round, and even in winter many people gravitate towards the beach-front eating establishments. The neighbouring Parque de Doña Sinforosa (just off the northern end of the beach) provides an attractive relief from the sand, sun and salt for anyone needing a little relaxation after a hard stint soaking up the rays!
The beach is named in reference to the saltwater inlet which runs along its northern end, carrying water to the salt flats just over a kilometre inland.
This beach is just a few metres from the much larger Playa de Los Náufragos which has a vast area of soft sand, promenade, and full facilities, as well as blue and Q for Quality flags.
