Storm Ingrid sweeps in this weekend: Spain weather forecast January 22-26
Heavy rain, snow and 7-metre waves are forecast in many parts of Spain from Friday

Weather alerts issued by AEMET on Friday January 23
Hot on the heels of storm Harry, the ninth major storm of the 2025-2026 season is expected to roll into Spain just in time for the weekend. Ingrid, as this latest episode has been christened, will result in gale-force winds, rain and dangerous sea conditions, alongside a snow level that’s set to plummet to just 300 metres.
Wednesday January 21 was already marked by several weather warnings in parts of Murcia and Andalucia as storm Harry lingered and this situation looks set to continue into the beginning of next week.
Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), stressed that "during Friday and the weekend the main event will be Storm Ingrid," which will affect both Spain and Portugal with "a significant maritime storm, strong winds, abundant rain and, in addition, snowfall at low elevations in the north, centre and east of the country."
Thursday January 22

The severe maritime storm will continue along the northern coasts on Thursday, with waves exceeding seven metres. More fronts associated with Atlantic storms will arrive, bringing rain to much of the country, though less likely and less intense along the Mediterranean coast.
The heaviest rainfall will occur in Galicia, where it could be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, northern Extremadura, the Strait of Gibraltar area, and mountainous regions of Andalucia. Heavy rain is also possible in the Balearic Islands. Very strong winds will blow across the north and east of Spain.
The warmest parts of the country are expected to be Alicante, Almería and Málaga, where highs of 18ºC are forecast.
Friday January 23

The effects of storm Ingrid will be noticeable from Friday onwards. Rain is expected across almost the entire country, though again it’s less likely in the Mediterranean coastal areas and the Cantabrian coast.
The heaviest rainfall will be in western Galicia, the Strait of Gibraltar area and mountainous regions of Andalucia. In addition to very strong winds in northern and eastern parts of the country, and significant rough seas along the Atlantic and Cantabrian coasts, snow is also forecast.
Temperatures will drop fairly dramatically across the board and although any frosts will be light, daytime highs won’t even reach 10ºC in many parts of northern and central Spain.
Saturday January 24

Saturday will also be a very cold day, with temperatures dropping even further.
Due to storm Ingrid, rainfall will again affect much of the country, except for the eastern coast of Spain and the Ebro Valley.
In addition, strong winds are expected in coastal areas.
Sunday January 25

Rain will continue across large parts of the country on Sunday, much of it still falling as snow at lower elevations, although it will not be as heavy as on Saturday. Temperatures will begin to rise, but frost is still expected in areas of the north and east.
What will happen next week?

Next week could be marked by the arrival of yet more Atlantic fronts, bringing rain to large areas of the country, heaviest in western Spain. Once again, the Mediterranean should miss the worst of the weather but Monday January 26 will be dull, cloudy and overcast everywhere. Thankfully though, temperatures should start to climb again across the country.
