The Modernist church of El Niño Jesús in Yecla
The 19th-century Iglesia del Niño Jesús in Yecla was designed by Millán Espinosa and features a spectacular altarpiece
The church of El Niño Jesús in Yecla was built in the Modernist style between 1880 and 1888 following a design by architect Justo Millán Espinosa, who is also responsible for the reconstruction of the Teatro Romea in the city of Murcia and the bull rings of Murcia, Lorca, Cieza, Abarán and Algiers, the capital of Algeria.
The church stands on a site previously occupied by a small early 17th-century church and is true to the eclectic principles of Millán Espinosa, inspired largely by the Iglesia del Buen Suceso in Madrid, which was designed by Agustín Ortíz de Villajos. The façade features a geometric Byzantine design and the belltower stands over the central nave, which ends in a small apse.
The interior decoration is dominated by the main altarpiece, which consists of 14 paintings dated 1982 by Rafael Roses Rivadavia.
