Thousands seek compensation as Spanish Insurance Consortium prepares to pay out for DANA damages

More than 35,800 people in Spain have lodged insurance claims for damage caused by the extraordinary flooding last week

The Insurance Compensation Consortium has received a staggering 35,800 applications for compensation due to the devastating DANA floods, with the first payments expected to be made by the end of next week.

Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, announced the figures on social media, revealing that more than 400 experts have been called in to assess the damage and expedite the compensation process.

The Insurance Compensation Consortium is a vital safety net for those affected by extraordinary events like the DANA floods. The Consortium provides coverage for damages caused by flooding, including material damage to homes, cars, commercial establishments and industries.

Additionally, it covers accommodation expenses due to uninhabitability of homes and loss of income resulting from the cessation of economic activity.

How to apply for compensation

Those affected by the floods can apply for compensation by calling 900 222 665 or visiting the Consortium's website (www.consorseguros.es).

Insurance companies are also authorised to process claims on behalf of their clients.

Minister Cuerpo emphasised that the Consortium is working tirelessly to provide assistance to those affected.

"We continue with our hearts in our mouths, making available everything necessary to help those affected by the DANA," the minister said.

The Insurance Compensation Consortium compensates for damages caused by extraordinary flooding. The requirement to access the Consortium's coverage is that the person or property is insured, with insurance in force at the time of the flood.

The Consortium will compensate in accordance with the insured sums and the clauses of the affected party's insurance contract.

Property owners can expect compensation for material damage, loss of rent, accommodation costs and loss of income due to the closure of commercial, service or industrial establishments.
