Torrential rain and snow hit Spain: Weather forecast Jan 5-8
Storm Francis will be replaced by several wintery Atlantic fronts mid-week, but southern Spain should start to clear

Weather alerts on Monday January 5
Storm Francis battered much of Spain over the weekend and although it’s expected to take its last gasps on Monday, the squall looks set to be replaced by several active Atlantic fronts. These will bring more widespread rain, snow, driving wind and dangerous conditions, but the worst of the weather should be confined to the north of the country.
Monday January 5

Francis continues to make its presence felt on Monday morning, bringing cloudy or overcast skies to the entire country, but these should clear towards the afternoon. Very heavy rain will fall in the southeast of Spain and in the Balearic Islands, with particularly bad storms forecast along the coast of Murcia early in the day.
Meanwhile, an Arctic air mass will affect the northern half of the country, with a front bringing afternoon rain to Galicia, the Cantabrian coast and the upper Ebro Valley. Temperatures will drop noticeably in most parts with widespread frosts expected inland.
Tuesday January 6

Very unstable conditions will persist in the far southeast of the country and the Balearic Islands on Tuesday, with cloudy or overcast skies and heavy rain, occasionally with thunderstorms. In northern Spain, the passage of fronts will also bring cloudy or overcast skies, with more rain in Galicia, the Cantabrian area, the upper Ebro valley and the northern Iberian System, generally easing as the day goes on.
Daytime temperatures will continue to fall in most of southern Spain, particularly Andalucia, and Tuesday night will also feel much colder than previous evenings.
Wednesday January 7

Things will settle down considerably on Wednesday, with the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasting mostly clear or partly cloudy skies everywhere except for the extreme northwest and the Cantabrian coast, where an Atlantic front will bring cloudy or overcast skies. Throughout the day, as the front moves in, cloud cover will increase across most of the country, with only the far south and southeast remaining clear. Rain is expected in Galicia, the Cantabrian area, the upper Ebro valley, the northern Iberian System, and the Pyrenees, and is also possible in other mountains of northern Spain, as well as in parts of the northern plateau and the far west of the country.
Few changes are expected to daytime temperatures but the mercury will continue to drop overnight in the southwest and along the southern Mediterranean coast.
Thursday January 8

Anticyclonic weather is expected across most of mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, although cloudy or overcast skies will prevail, except in the southern and southeastern thirds of the country where mostly sunny skies are expected.
Temperatures will rise across the board, more markedly in the east and the Balearics, where minimum temperatures will see locally significant increases, and potentially maximum temperatures as well. Little change is expected in the Canary Islands.
