Customers browsing around the Miramar Shopping Centre in Fuengirola, Malaga, got more than they bargained for on Monday February 3 when a wild boar mum wandered in off the streets, happily followed by several babies.
The family herd reportedly got in through the car park and spent a time strolling around the communal areas, much to the amusement of customers, many of whom recorded the spectacle on their phones.
In one video, one of the youngsters can be seen breaking away from the group for a second and approaching a surprised passer-by, before beating a hasty retreat. One person can be heard exclaiming “Is this a joke?” in the background.
In separate footage, the mother boar and her offspring decide to have a look around the shops and are filmed scurrying under racks of clothes.
Security personnel acted quickly, guiding the wild boars outside without any incidents or material damage. Ignacio Domínguez, director of the Miramar Shopping Centre, explained that these animals had been seen on other occasions in the outdoor car park, although until now they had never entered the building.
Although there have been no problems, Mr Domínguez expressed his concern about the presence of wild boars so close to people and busy traffic. He has warned customers to remember that although the babies are adorable, wild boars are still wild animals and can be dangerous if they feel threatened.
The appearance of wild boars in urban areas of Malaga and its surroundings has become more frequent in recent months. In their search for food, they venture into inhabited areas, which has generated some concern among residents and local authorities.
Authorities advise citizens to avoid feeding these animals and to keep a safe distance if they encounter them. They also advise against approaching or interacting with wild boars, as, although they are generally peaceful, they can react in unpredictable ways.
