13 people injured as car mows into crowd at Barcelona football match
A car ran over numerous Espanyol fans outside Cornellá stadium ahead of the derby against Barça

A car ran over several Espanyol fans in Spain this Thursday May 15 and left 13 people slightly injured in the vicinity of the RCDE Stadium before the derby match against FC Barcelona.
According to the police, the attack was accidental, ruling out the hypothesis of an attack. A woman in her 50s, who tested negative for drugs and alcohol, has been arrested.
The incident, which occurred at 9.02pm, marked the start of the LaLiga match between Espanyol and Barcelona, according to Eduard Sallent, commissioner of the Mossos d'Esquadra police in Catalonia.
“A person driving a vehicle on an open road was surrounded by fans on their way to the stadium and, for some reason that is not yet clear to us, she accelerated to leave the area,” he said.
The match between Espanyol and Barcelona was briefly interrupted 10 minutes into the game after a report was made over the loudspeaker of a multiple hit-and-run in the vicinity of the stadium.
Following the announcement, the referee, César Soto Grado, stopped the match after informing both captains and went to the touchline to ask the Mossos d'Esquadra about the extent of the accident, before deciding to restart the match.
The police commander added that the vehicle “was not speeding”, but that the car “was stationary, tried to get out and, in its exit manoeuvre, ran over the people in front of it”.
Sallent commented that this person “felt harassed” by the situation and, in her “flight” caused the accident. This person has been arrested and has tested negative for both alcohol and drugs, and the case is in the hands of the Cornellà de Llobregat Investigation Unit.
Sallent expressed his “support for the families and the injured people” who, although they were only “slightly” injured, did have “a good scare”.
