Andalucía keeps its ITV prices frozen for another year
New Facua study shows the region's vehicle inspection fees stay well below the national average for 2026
Vehicle inspections (ITVs) remain one of those unavoidable bits of motoring admin, but where you get yours done can make a real difference to the bill. According to a new study by Facua-Consumers in Action covering ITV fees for 2026, Andalucía continues to offer some of the most favourable pricing anywhere in Spain, with frozen rates that sit comfortably below the national average.
That advantage builds on a pattern already flagged last year, when the consumer group OCU found Andalucía, Extremadura and Madrid to be the three cheapest regions in the country, with a gap of at least €15 compared to the priciest areas, Ceuta, the Basque Country and Cantabria.
Andalucía's system sets its rates by engine displacement. Petrol cars under 1,600cc pay €29.10, while diesel versions of the same size cost €34.21. Larger cars above 1,600cc cost more, €39.34 for petrol and €44.44 for diesel. Motorbikes follow a similar pattern, with smaller machines up to 125cc paying €17.32, rising to €28.91 for anything bigger. One particularly useful perk survives too, if your vehicle fails its first inspection, the second and any further checks are completely free, provided they happen within two months.
Compare those figures with the national picture and Andalucía's position looks even better. Across Spain as a whole, the average cost sits at €39.18 for petrol cars and €46.09 for diesel, giving an overall weighted average of €42.64 per inspection, following a rise of between 2.3% and 2.5% on last year's prices. Andalusian drivers with smaller engines pay noticeably less than that national figure, and even those running larger diesel cars still come out ahead. Only owners of bigger petrol cars pay roughly what the rest of the country pays.
At the other end of the scale, things look considerably worse. The Basque Country and Cantabria charge more than €57 for a diesel inspection, with petrol prices above €51 or even €55 in some cases. Castile and León and Aragón aren't far behind, with diesel fees hovering around €56. The genuine bargains, by contrast, are found in Mallorca, where petrol inspections cost just €17.01, and at Extremadura's publicly run stations, which charge a flat €29.25 regardless of fuel type.
Taken together, Facua found the gap between regions can reach as much as 225% for petrol cars and 103.4% for diesel vehicles, depending entirely on where in Spain the inspection takes place. For anyone weighing up where to get their next ITV done, that's a difference well worth knowing about.
