Breakwater repairs ongoing at the beach of La Colonia in Águilas
Accessibility is improved by the laying of a new concrete surface on the structure
Work is nearing completion at the beach off La Colonia in Águilas to make the breakwater which protrudes into the Mediterranean more accessible to members of the public due to a Town Hall initiative budgeted at just under 35,000 euros.
The breakwater is located alongside the Peñón del Roncaor, the outcrop on which Águilas castle stands, and the work began on Tuesday 13th October, consisting of the laying of a new 12-centimetre-thick concrete surface in order to eliminate the cracks and other imperfections which had appeared on the previous finish. These had made it very difficult or impossible for those with limited mobility to enjoy the 115-metre walk out to sea.
At the same time, the slope on the access ramp has been reduced to just 6% and a NaviLens sign has been installed to allow the visually impaired to obtain information via their phones.
