Caravaca updates the roundabout by the Autovía del Noroeste
A multitude of changes have been made to improve the conditions of the roundabout
The Caravaca de la Cruz Town Council has renewed and improved the image of the roundabout at the access road to the town, by the Autovía del Noroeste. The work consists mainly of replacing the existing mosaic pavement with artificial grass.
The artificial grass will reproduce the colours and shapes of the Caravaca flag and standard, while the new LED light systems will help to improve road safety at the roundabout.
The budget set for the work was 45,000 euros, and as the mayor of the town points out this “not only improves the image of the main entrance to the municipality, but also means greater road safety thanks to a more modern and adjustable lighting system.”
Furthermore, the mayor continued to state that “a more suitable solution has been sought for the pavement, since the material it had until now was short-lived and required costly maintenance, all without giving up one of our main identity symbols, such as the flag of Caravaca, one of the oldest and with the greatest history of all the municipalities in Spain.”
This famed roundabout, however, is not the only one to have received an upgrade over the past few months. Seven roundabouts in all have been improved upon in the town, and one new roundabout has been built next to the funeral home to improve safety in the area.
The project has been carried out under the new Works and Services plan, which is working to eliminate traffic lights by creating roundabouts and widening pavements in the urban area. Two further roundabouts are planned for the future – one at the intersection of Avenida Andenes and the other at the intersection of the Moratalla road.
Both actions are planned with a budget of more than 300,000 euros, which will be financed by the Government of the Region of Murcia.
