Guardia Civil strengthens its presence in Campo de Gibraltar
53 new officers will join the Algeciras Command, with a focus on citizen security, borders and specialist services
The Guardia Civil has added 53 new officers to its Algeciras Command in a move that will increase its presence and operational capacity across the Campo de Gibraltar.
The officers, of different ranks, have been assigned following the latest destination resolutions issued by the Guardia Civil’s General Directorate. They will join different units across the region after taking part in an official welcome ceremony at the Algeciras Command on Friday October 16.
The new personnel will mainly reinforce Citizen Security posts and the specialised Fiscal and Borders units. These areas are particularly significant in a region shaped by its border and port status.
The additions will also provide extra resources for other parts of the Command, including the Maritime Service, Traffic and Motor Transport.
The group includes officers who have previously served in the Campo de Gibraltar, as well as others who are arriving in the area for the first time.
The new recruits were welcomed by Blanca Flores, Deputy Government Delegate in Cádiz, and Colonel Fernando López-Rey, head of the Algeciras Command. Esperanza Pérez, Coordinator of the General State Administration, also attended the ceremony.
During the day, the officers received training on the structure, organisation and operation of the Command. They were also given information about the characteristics of the district to help with their professional and personal integration.
Representatives from the Government and the Guardia Civil said the reinforcements would strengthen security and improve services for people living in the region’s municipalities.
The Campo de Gibraltar’s ports, coastline and border position make specialist policing especially important. The Guardia Civil’s Fiscal and Borders work includes protecting coasts, borders, ports and airports, as well as helping prevent smuggling and other illegal trafficking.
The new officers are expected to begin work in their respective posts and units after completing the welcome and training process.
