Man found dead with gunshot wound at his home in Águilas

The victim was still alive when emergency services arrived but could not be saved

A 49-year-old man has died after being found with a gunshot wound to the head at his home in Águilas.

The man's son discovered him seriously injured at the property on Vicenta Ruano Avenue on the night of Monday September 14, and immediately contacted the emergency services.

Medical personnel, Local Police officers and members of the Guardia Civil went to the property. The man was still alive when paramedics arrived but, despite their efforts, he died from the severity of his injuries.

His body was subsequently transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine for a post mortem. The forensic examination will help establish the exact cause of death, although officers who initially attended the scene observed what appeared to be a serious gunshot wound.

The Guardia Civil is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death. Several possible explanations remain open while officers work to establish what happened.

According to local reports, investigators are also taking into account the area's known problems with drug dealing, although there is currently no confirmation that drugs were connected to the man's death.

The victim's son has reportedly told journalists that he believes his father was murdered. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of a targeted attack or an incident linked to drugs, but other lines of inquiry also remain open.
