Murcia weather forecast August 17-20: Heat builds before rain and storms return
Temperatures are set to climb towards 40°C inland but there’s a strong chance of rain in several parts of the Region mid-week

Weather alerts for high temperatures on Tuesday August 18
The Region of Murcia is heading into another week of intense summer heat. Temperatures are expected to climb steadily over the next few days before more unsettled weather moves in from Wednesday, bringing the possibility of rain in inland areas.
The biggest concern for many residents will be the heat, particularly overnight. Minimum temperatures are expected to stay above 20°C across the Region, while some inland areas could see temperatures remain above 25°C overnight from Wednesday.
Monday August 17

The week gets off to a mostly settled start, with partly cloudy skies and some high cloud expected across the Region. Early morning low cloud is also possible around the Campo de Cartagena.
Temperatures will either remain similar to recent days or rise slightly. Winds will be light and variable at first before becoming more easterly from around midday, with occasional moderate breezes.
For anyone heading to the coast, the sea breeze should provide some relief during the afternoon, although it’s still going to feel very warm.
Tuesday August 18

Tuesday will bring plenty of sunshine, with skies ranging from clear to partly cloudy across most of the Region.
Temperatures will edge higher, particularly during the afternoon, while overnight temperatures are expected to remain fairly similar.
A yellow weather warning for high temperatures is in place in the Vega del Segura, so areas around the Segura valley should prepare for another very hot day.
Wednesday August 19

Wednesday is likely to be the hottest day of the week so far, with temperatures rising widely across inland areas of the Region of Murcia.
Murcia, Alcantarilla and Molina de Segura are expected to push above 40°C, while Lorca, the Altiplano and the Northwest could also get close to the 40°C mark. That kind of heat was relatively common during July, which was an exceptionally hot month across the Region.
Conditions should be more manageable along the coast, with Cartagena, Mazarrón, Águilas, Torre Pacheco, La Manga and the Mar Menor expected to stay closer to 35°C.
There’s also a twist to the forecast, however, as Wednesday looks set to mark the start of a more unsettled spell.
AEMET is forecasting the possibility of afternoon rain in parts of the interior, including Jumilla, Yecla, Lorca, Cieza and municipalities in the Northwest. There’s also a chance of showers around Murcia and neighbouring areas, although the probability is currently below 50%.
At this stage, the coast is expected to escape the rain.
Thursday August 20

Thursday should see temperatures begin to fall, particularly inland, although it’ll still be very warm and the nights will remain uncomfortable.
The forecast is currently pointing towards another chance of rain in the Altiplano, with Jumilla being one of the areas being watched particularly closely. The weather could be of interest there as the town continues its August grape harvest celebrations, although there’s still plenty of time for the forecast to change.
Skies are expected to be partly cloudy or clear, while minimum temperatures should remain fairly steady or rise slightly.
Westerly winds will become moderate and could occasionally be strong along the coast.

- Tuesday August 18: Min 18ºC; Max 38ºC
