Murcia weather forecast July 16-19: Third heatwave on the way
Temperatures could climb past 42°C in many parts of Murcia this weekend

Weather alerts for high temperatures on Thursday July 16
The Region of Murcia is in for another stretch of scorching hot weather over the next few days, with highs pushing past 40°C in many inland areas and Aemet warning that a third heatwave of the summer could take hold from Sunday.
On top of the heat, haze is expected to linger too, cutting visibility and making the air feel even more humid and heavy than the temperatures alone suggest.
Thursday July 16

Thursday brings highs of around 40°C across most of the Region, with an orange alert in place for Lorca, Caravaca de la Cruz, Yecla, Cieza, Murcia and Águilas. Cartagena's alert sits a notch lower at yellow, with the Campo de Cartagena area expected to top out slightly cooler at 37°C.
Friday July 17

Friday could turn out to be the hottest day of the week, with the capital forecast to reach 42°C. The orange alert narrows to just the Vega del Segura area, with everywhere else downgraded to yellow, although that doesn't mean much relief on the ground. Most spots will still be flirting with 40°C, and anywhere that dips below that will likely still be sitting in the high 30s.
Saturday July 18

Things ease off slightly on Saturday, and all the weather alerts are set to be lifted. That said, "slightly" is doing a lot of work here, since temperatures will only drop marginally and the heat is likely to still feel intense, particularly with humidity and haze adding to the discomfort.
Sunday July 19

Sunday looks like the turning point, with a fresh mass of hot air from the Sahara expected to move in and push temperatures back up again. If this materialises as forecast it'll mark the Region's third heatwave of the summer, bringing very high daytime temperatures alongside tropical, and in some spots sweltering, nights where the mercury doesn't drop below 25°C.
That kind of overnight heat makes it much harder to get a decent night's sleep and means the effects of the heat carry on well after dark.
The Region has already seen four separate incursions of hot Saharan air, the most recent of which hit the Mediterranean coast directly. Jorge Olcina, head of the Climatology Laboratory at the University of Alicante, has warned that July could close out with fresh temperature records, and that the Mediterranean itself could reach 30°C in places along the coasts of Valencia, Alicante, the Balearic Islands and the Region of Murcia this summer, which only adds to how oppressive the heat feels near the coast.
As it stands, the sea off Cabo de Palos was already measured at 28°C on Wednesday. For context, summers like 2023 and 2025 saw between five and six extreme heat episodes each, so this year could well end up following a similar pattern.
Minimum and maximum temperatures in Murcia this weekend

- Friday July 17: Min 20ºC; Max 42ºC
- Saturday July 18: Min 21ºC; Max 39ºC
