Murcia weather forecast July 30 – Aug 2: No end in sight as heatwave pushes temperatures to 40°C

The fourth heatwave will last until Sunday with scorching temperatures across Murcia and a very high risk of fire

Heat alerts in Murcia on Friday July 31

The fourth heatwave of summer 2026 has landed hot on the heels of the third, prompting the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) to activated a yellow alert over the next few days in the Region of Murcia, with inland temperatures climbing to around 39°C, before nudging 40-41°C on Sunday even after the official alerts are lifted. The intense heat is also keeping the wildfire risk dangerously high across much of the Region.

Thursday July 30

Thursday will be mostly sunny with just a few clouds and some early morning mist along the coast. Coastal areas will be a little cooler, reaching around 32°C, but inland it's another very hot day with Murcia city expected to hit 38°C. Light winds will strengthen slightly from the southeast during the afternoon.

Friday July 31

Temperatures climb another degree on Friday, with Murcia reaching 39°C and inland towns including Lorca sitting around 37°C. Sunshine will dominate for most of the day, although cloud is expected to build over the northern mountains during the afternoon where there's a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms. A layer of Saharan dust is also forecast to arrive in the south of the Region later in the day.

Saturday August 1

Saturday brings little relief. Highs of 39°C are forecast for Yecla and Caravaca de la Cruz, with plenty of sunshine across the Region. Cloud may develop over inland mountain areas during the afternoon, bringing a small risk of isolated storms in the northwest, but for most places it will remain dry, hot and humid.

Sunday August 2

The yellow heat warnings are expected to end, but don't expect a noticeable cooldown. Inland temperatures could still reach 40-41°C, making Sunday the hottest day of the week in some areas. Skies will stay mostly sunny, with some morning cloud around the Campo de Cartagena and a slight chance of afternoon storms over the northern mountains. Saharan dust is also expected to linger across southern parts of the Region.

The prolonged spell of hot weather has also pushed the wildfire risk to worrying levels. The danger is extreme in the Northwest and very high across the Altiplano, the Mula Basin and the Guadalentín Valley, while the rest of the Region, including Murcia city and the coast, also faces a high risk.
