Rail works disrupt Murcia to Alicante line with buses replacing trains for over a week
More than 56,000 seats have been arranged on replacement buses as engineers upgrade the Torrellano to Crevillente stretch

Anyone travelling by train between Murcia and Alicante over the coming days will need to swap the railway for the road as engineers carry out maintenance and improvement works on the line.
The works are focused on the stretch between Torrellano and Crevillente and are designed to boost the capacity, functionality and reliability of the conventional network in that section.
According to the rail operator, the line will be completely out of action from 6am on Monday August 17 right through to 11.30pm on Tuesday August 25. No trains will run through the affected area for the duration, although passengers won't be left stranded as replacement road transport has been laid on to cover the gap.
For the commuter line connecting Alicante and Murcia, the operator has arranged a total of 56,000 seats on buses to cover the days when trains aren't running, with services operating between Alicante and Crevillente as well as between Alicante and Callosa de Segura. The C1 commuter line between Alicante Terminal and Murcia del Carmen is likely to be one of the routes most affected, with passengers needing to complete part of their journey by road rather than rail.
It's not just commuters who'll notice the change. The Medium Distance service running between Cartagena and Valencia will also be affected, with buses covering the sections between Alicante and Crevillente and between Elche and Alicante. More than 4,000 seats have been made available on these routes to keep passengers moving.
Long distance travellers haven't been forgotten either, as the Intercity service linking Valencia and Cartagena will run by bus on the section between Valencia and Murcia, with close to 2,000 seats on offer for those making the journey.
Anyone with travel plans between the two provinces over the next week would be wise to check their journey times in advance, as replacement bus services can add extra time to what would normally be a straightforward train ride.
