Roman Theatre in Cartagena lays on extra activities for the August bank holiday

The museum is running extra activities throughout August, including two night time tours

The Roman Theatre Museum in Cartagena is running an expanded programme of activities throughout the August bank holiday weekend, with guided tours, family activities, virtual reality experiences and night time visits all on offer.

Across Spain, Saturday August 15 is a national holiday known as the Assumption of the Virgin (La Asunción de la Virgen).

Two temporary exhibitions, Landscape of Time and Aquam. Paths of Water, are running alongside the museum's usual displays, exploring Cartagena's history and its relationship with water through photography and artwork.

On Wednesdays and Fridays at 6pm, visitors can join The Time Machine, a virtual reality guided tour recreating how the Roman Theatre looked in the 1st century.

Thursdays bring the Carthaginians and Romans route at 10.30am, followed by the family activity By Jupiter! Theatre and Myths at 6pm, which also runs on Saturdays at the same time.

On Sundays at 10.30am, the From the Theatre to the Domus of the Portico tour links the museum with nearby archaeological remains.

At night, The Theatre by Moonlight runs at 9pm on August 15 and 29, and September 19 and 26, while the theatrical tour Aulaeum, Lower the Curtain takes place at the same time on August 22 and September 5 and 12.

The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 8pm, and Sundays from 10am to 2pm, with the same full hours also applying on Saturday August 15.
