Spain's 2027 holiday calendar: When to plan your next long weekend
The new calendar offers several three-day breaks and a chance to enjoy five days off in December, depending on where you live
Anyone hoping to get next year’s holidays organised can start planning, with Spain’s 2027 work calendar now published.
There will be 12 national and regional public holidays, with nine dates shared across Spain, plus additional celebrations in each autonomous community and two local holidays chosen by each Ayuntamiento.
The good news for anyone planning a short break is that several holidays fall on a Friday or Monday, making it possible to enjoy a long weekend without using up annual leave.
The best dates for a long weekend
The year begins favourably, with New Year’s Day falling on Friday January 1. Good Friday follows on March 26, providing another three-day weekend.
Later in the year, All Saints’ Day falls on Monday November 1, followed by Constitution Day on Monday December 6.
December could offer one of the best opportunities for an extended break. Constitution Day falls on Monday December 6 and the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday December 8. Taking Tuesday December 7 off could give workers five consecutive days away from work, from Saturday December 4 to Wednesday December 8.
Easter also arrives relatively early in 2027. Holy Thursday falls on March 25 and Good Friday on March 26. Most autonomous communities will observe both dates, creating a four-day break when combined with the weekend. Catalonia and the Valencian Community will not observe Holy Thursday as a public holiday.
Not every date is quite so convenient, however. Labour Day on Saturday May 1 and Christmas Day on Saturday December 25 will not automatically provide an extra weekday off. The Assumption of the Virgin also falls on Sunday August 15.
The nine holidays shared across Spain
The following dates are listed as common public holidays throughout the country:
- Friday January 1: New Year’s Day
- Wednesday January 6: Epiphany, or Three Kings’ Day
- Friday March 26: Good Friday
- Saturday May 1: Labour Day
- Sunday August 15: Assumption of the Virgin
- Tuesday October 12: Spain’s National Day
- Monday December 6: Constitution Day
- Wednesday December 8: Immaculate Conception
- Saturday December 25: Christmas Day
Check your regional calendar too
The dates above are only part of the picture, as regional holidays can make a significant difference to when people get time off.
Andalucía, Aragon, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid will observe Monday August 16 as a holiday, following the Assumption on Sunday.
Saint Joseph’s Day, Friday March 19, will be a holiday in Murcia, Galicia, Madrid, Navarre and the Valencian Community. Easter Monday, March 29, will be observed in the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Navarre, the Basque Country, La Rioja and the Valencian Community.
Castilla-La Mancha will celebrate Corpus Christi on Thursday May 27, while Catalonia will observe Saint John’s Day on Thursday June 24.
For residents in Murcia, the regional calendar includes March 19 for Saint Joseph’s Day, alongside Holy Thursday on March 25 and Good Friday on March 26.
Remember that local festivities are still to be considered when planning time off. Each municipality can establish two additional local holidays, so the final dates will depend on where you live.
