Temperatures continue to drop as rain forecast: Murcia weekly weather December 1-4

It will be mostly sunny in the Region of Murcia at the beginning of this week, but there is rain forecast for a couple of days this week...

Hello, December! The final month of the year starts chilly in the Region of Murcia, as well it should, but still with the mainly sunny conditions that we expect from this corner of southern Spain. A few clouds around, yes, and the chance of rain and snow on Wednesday and Thursday, but not as much as there forecast for neighbouring Almería and Jaén.

In the meantime, the evenings are coming on earlier and earlier, and it gets a bit miserable when you see it’s already getting dark at 5pm, but the good news – and this may surprise you – is that we’re only three weeks away from the winter solstice on December 21, after which point the days will slowly start getting longer again. Roll on spring!

Monday December 1

For the first day of the week and the month, Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts “partly cloudy skies, with intervals of low clouds in the morning” and “temperatures with little change”. They also note there will be “light to moderate northerly winds”. So basically, fairly crisp and pleasant.

Tuesday dawns kind of foggy, but that will clear up as the morning goes on, giving way to “cloudy skies with high clouds, becoming very cloudy and with the possibility of occasional light rain in the afternoon,” mainly in the far northwest around Caravaca de la Cruz and the mountain range beyond it leading up to Albacete.

Wednesday December 3

The early morning of Wednesday December 3, while most people are still asleep, will be a very different story as Aemet forecasts heavy rains for pretty much the whole Region, and in areas where the altitude reaches above 1,200 metres they also forecast snow.

Temperatures are “falling across the board,” they say – not quite down to freezing, but definitely with “light frosts in the northwestern mountains”.

Thursday December 4

Wednesday night and Thursday morning will be fairly dry, if cloudy, but then by Thursday evening the rain is set to return, accompanied by a continuing drop in both minimum and maximum temperatures. And if you’re up in the mountains, it will still be frosty and you’ll possibly see a little bit of snow.

For now, the weekend ahead – which is a puente in all of Spain – is looking dry and there might actually even be an uptick in temperatures by a couple of degrees, but that’s still a long way away, meteorologically speaking, so anything could change between now and then!
