The new overtime rule that Spanish workers have been waiting for

Under the labour reform in Spain, companies must provide each worker with a receipt for overtime hours

Going forward, Spanish companies will have to be far more transparent when it comes to overtime. As part of the country's new labour reform, businesses will have to provide their employees with a monthly receipt that details all the extra hours they've worked. This receipt will be attached to their payroll, so it's easy to keep track of everything.

The idea behind this is to make sure companies are playing by the rules and not taking advantage of their workers. The labour reform also includes a reduction in the standard working day to 37.5 hours, which is a major change coming down the line.

To make sure everything runs smoothly, companies will have to get their time clock systems in order. This means they'll need to provide a clear and accurate record of all the hours their employees work, including regular hours, overtime and any other extra hours they put in.

The new receipt will break down all these hours, so employees can see exactly what they've worked and what they're owed. If a company fails to record or pay for these hours, they could face some serious fines - up to €10,000, to be exact.

The time recording system is going digital, which means employees will be able to log their daily entry and exit times themselves. This will help prevent any funny business, as the system will be able to identify who's recording the time and the authorities will be able to access it in real time. This will also apply to overtime hours, so everything is above board.

Companies have got some time to get their systems in order, with an adaptation period that's expected to last until the end of 2025. However, the government is hoping to have everything up and running before the summer of 2025, so it's likely we'll see some changes sooner rather than later.
