Torrevieja's giant lighthouse city park set for August start
Building work on Alto de la Casilla is now expected to start this summer, with the park opening by spring 2027

Torrevieja's plans for a huge new lighthouse park have taken a big step forward, with the town hall confirming the construction contract has now been awarded, and for less money than originally expected.
The job has gone to a joint venture between ABALA Infraestructuras and ORTHEM Servicios y Actuaciones Ambientales, who scored 97.49 points out of the available total in the bidding process, coming in 13% under the original budget with their offer. The council received 13 bids in total, which the town hall pointed out shows just how much interest the project has generated locally.
The final price now stands at €10,370,583 including VAT, a drop from the €11.9 million figure first reported when the project was approved.Work is expected to get underway in August and should take around 8 months to complete, meaning the park could be ready by spring 2027 if everything stays on schedule.
Alongside the contract award, the winning bidders have thrown in a few extras that weren't part of the original plan. An additional 810 square metres of organically shaped pergolas will be added throughout the park, giving visitors plenty of shaded spots to escape the sun during the hottest months. There's also a new inclusive play area on the way, made up of seven pieces of equipment designed so children of all abilities can join in, including features like the Little Whale, the Lighthouse with Net and the Starfish Slide. Together, the pergolas and play equipment are valued at €267,350, and they won't cost the council a single euro extra.
Everything else about the park remains as ambitious as ever. The 30,000 square metre site will still include the Pink Lagoon and Nautical World play zones, a café, parking, a panoramic viewpoint over the salt lagoons and sea, and extensive planting including hundreds of trees and thousands of shrubs and aromatic plants.Images: Ayuntamiento de Torrevieja
