Three earthquakes hit the Costa Blanca in 24 hours
Tremors were felt in Torrevieja, Elche and off the coast of Benidorm
Three separate earthquakes have struck the province of Alicante within the space of 24 hours, all measuring below magnitude 2 on the Richter scale.
The most recent hit Torrevieja on Tuesday morning, July 14, with residents reporting feeling a slight tremor, though there have been no reports of injury or damage.
According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), Tuesday's earthquake struck at 7.09am with a magnitude of 1.8. Its epicentre was located near the Torrevieja salt lagoon, southeast of Los Montesinos, at a depth of 5km. Some residents said they felt the tremor, according to posts shared on social media by the Proyecto Mastral Torrevieja platform.
It follows two further earthquakes recorded the day before on Monday. The first struck at 3.40am to the west of Elche, with a magnitude of 1.9 and a depth of 5km, which the IGN classified with a maximum intensity of II.
The second occurred later that evening at 8.26pm out at sea, between Alicante and Benidorm, registering a magnitude of 1.8 at a depth of 0km, according to the agency's data.
