Car bursts into flames outside popular Orihuela Costa restaurant

The flames threatened to engulf the wooden front of the Banana Tree Restaurant

There was plenty of panic in Orihuela Costa on Saturday afternoon, October 25, when a car burst into flames just metres from the Banana Tree Restaurant on Calle Azafrán.

The blaze broke out at around 1.20pm and quickly drew the attention of passers-by and diners, who feared the fire might spread to the nearby wooden façade of the popular restaurant.

Firefighters from Torrevieja were immediately dispatched to the scene along with a Chief Command Unit and a Heavy Urban Fire Brigade, consisting of five crew members. Their swift response prevented the flames from reaching the restaurant and kept the situation under control.

After several hours of work, the fire was officially brought under control at 5pm. Thankfully, no one was injured and the fire damage was limited to the vehicle itself.

The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium later reminded residents of the importance of keeping a safe distance when parking vehicles near buildings, particularly those with wooden façades or other flammable materials.
