VIDEO: Seville locals outraged at tourist conga dance in historic fountain

A viral video showing a group of tourists splashing and conga-dancing inside a centuries-old fountain in Seville’s historic centre has ignited fury among locals and reignited the ongoing debate around mass tourism in Spain.
The footage, filmed in Plaza de la Alianza in the Santa Cruz neighbourhood just steps from the iconic Giralda tower, captures several tourists laughing and shouting while climbing into the decorative fountain in broad daylight.
The behaviour has been widely condemned on social media, with many residents calling the group “barbarians” who “have no respect for our city.”
"They keep trying to sell us the idea of quality tourism in Seville. They’re not tourists, they’re barbarians,” wrote one furious user online.
Others described the scene as “disrespectful” and called for harsher penalties for visitors who flout local customs and damage heritage sites. Several people claimed the police were alerted, while others suggested fines of at least €1,000 per person to send a message.
Not everyone agreed the incident reflects broader tourism issues, with a few dismissing it as a “harmless prank.”
But the majority saw the spectacle as yet another example of tourists crossing the line, highlighting growing frustration in Spain’s most visited cities about the impact of unregulated tourism on public spaces and cultural landmarks.
