Watch! Mountain goats swap hills for holiday vibes on Málaga beach
Two mountain goats took a surprising stroll along San Andrés beach before heading into the port

It is not every day that beachgoers in Málaga have to share the sand with wildlife, but earlier this week, locals and tourists in the Huelin neighbourhood were treated to an unexpected sight - two mountain goats wandering freely along San Andrés beach.
The pair of goats, usually more at home in the rugged Montes de Málaga, appeared perfectly at ease by the sea, captured on video just metres from the shoreline by local broadcaster 101 TV. They were spotted near the Rocamar beach bar, calmly strolling along the promenade and soaking up the coastal sunshine before eventually making their way into the city’s port area.
Environmental officers from the Junta de Andalucía, along with members of the local police, were quickly dispatched to monitor the animals and ensure public safety. It is not clear how the goats ended up in the area, but they seemed unbothered by the attention they received.
While the sight of mountain goats by the sea is certainly unusual, it is not the first time wildlife has made an appearance in Málaga’s urban spaces. Earlier this year, in March, a group of wild boars were seen near the Miramar shopping centre in Fuengirola. Although not aggressive, the boars were visibly disoriented and caused concern among residents living close to the forested edges of the city.
In response to increasing sightings of wild animals, Málaga City Council has already been stepping up efforts to keep them away from busy areas. Towards the end of 2024, a network of watering troughs was installed in natural zones to prevent wild boars from coming into the city in search of water. More recently, at the start of 2025, the council began using deterrents such as unpleasant smells and noises to further discourage visits.
“The public is reminded not to feed wild animals and to always dispose of rubbish properly,” the council stated. “If the current measures are not effective, controlled population management using tranquiliser darts may be considered.”
As for the beach-loving goats, their short visit was peaceful and well-managed. Authorities kept a close eye on the goats, ensuring their brief city adventure caused no harm or disruption.
